HYDROCHINA HUADONG ENGINEERING CORPORATION (HYDROCHINA HUADONG, formerly East China Investigation and Design Institute – ECIDI), a Class-A multidisciplinary engineering organization directly under HYDROCHINA CORPORATION, was established in Shanghai in 1954, and has its headquarter at Hangzhou and its branches in Sichuan , Chongqing and Fujian, etc. The Large Dam Safety Supervision Center under Chinese Electric Regulatory Committee is set in ECIDI.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG has over 2,000 employees, above 85% being professionals, including 520-odd senior professionals and more than 660 persons/times holding the national registered professional qualification certificates of all types. Recently, a Post-Doctoral Scientific Research Workstation and an Advisory Group of Academicians have been established in HYDROCHINA HUADONG.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG, a multidisciplinary, trans-domain and comprehensive investigation and design institute, possesses its core competence of providing the whole-process technical and managerial services for projects from pre-stage work to EPC-based project contracting in three major engineering fields, i.e., hydropower and water resources development, urban and environmental engineering and safety engineering for dams and other structures of various types. At present, it is transforming itself into an international engineering corporation.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG possesses more than ten Class A qualification certificates including Class A Certificate of Comprehensive Engineering Design, Class A Certificate of Comprehensive Engineering Survey and Class A Certificate for Engineering Consultancy, and the business scope covers consultancy service for project decision-making, project appraisal, planning, reconnaissance, design, engineering consultancy, project supervision, project management and EPC-based project contracting, scientific research, testing, agency for tendering, safety appraisal for hydropower projects, and safety monitoring technical service for dams, etc.

Fifty years since the establishment of HYDROCHINA HUADONG reflect the company’s endeavor for planning, investigation and design of over 100 large- and medium-sized hydropower projects, and witness more than 80-odd hydropower stations (with a total installed capacity of 30000MW) completed and under construction. Many master pieces of HYDROCHINA HUADONG represent its progress at its different development stages, such as the Xin‘anjiang Hydropower Station --- the first large-sized hydropower station designed, constructed, manufactured and installed solely by Chinese people; the Shuikou Hydropower Station --- the largest HPP in

East China Region and once praised as one of “Five Gold Flowers” in Chinese hydropower circle, as well as the first IBRD-loaned domestic hydropower project constructed through ICB and by applying project corporate system, bidding procedures and construction supervision system; and the Tianhuangping Pumped Storage Power Station --- the largest PSP in China and Asia, and having largest unit capacity in China.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG has also made remarkable achievements in urban construction and environmental engineering development fields, and has successively designed a large number of large public buildings, high-rise buildings, gardenized residence communities and scores of large-sized bridges of various types, several thousand kilometers-long highways of all grades, over 100 tunnels, five subway stations and more than 10km-long interzone subway projects. Additionally, it has achieved excellent performance in such engineering fields as the integrated improvement of ecological environment and water environment, safety engineering for dams and infrastructures of various types, project contracting on EPC-base, and complete equipment supply. The above mentioned has made great contributions to the social and economic development.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG dedicates itself to the learning-oriented corporate culture, implements ‘three-in-one‘ management system covering control of quality, environmental and occupational health and safety, as well as superior performance management model. Now, the company obtains the quality management system certificate for quality/environment/ occupational health and safety (ISO9001/ISO14001/GB/ T28001) issued by China Classification Society Quality Assurance Ltd. (CSQA) after authentication. The company pays great attention to using IT to propel modernization of technologies and management, and has set up the first-class network-based, integrated computer applications (OA) system, and formed three application systems of computer-based design management and remote application platform so that the data sharing and remote management has been realized and plentiful accomplishments have been achieved in 3-D computer-added design application.

HYDROCHINA HUADONG has a long history and enjoys great reputation both in China and abroad. BY now, the company has won over 300 prizes, at the state, province and ministry level, for its excellent scientific and technologic advancement, excellent engineering survey and designs and excellent research achievements, which include 37 prizes are of state level. The company possesses 45 invention and practicality patents and was assessed as high-tech enterprise. Since 1990’s, HYDROCHINA HUADONG has been ranked among the China’s Top 100 investigation and design institutes in terms of comprehensive strength and civilized unit of Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City. The company has been honored as AAA unit for “Abiding by Contracts and Honoring Pledges” respectively by the responsible departments of the state, Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City since 2003. In the recent years, the company has won many honorable titles such as “Advanced Enterprise Operating in Superexcellent Performance Mode”, “Advanced Enterprise for Technical Innovation in Construction Field”, “Quality Control Prize Winner in National Electric Power Circle” and “National Advanced Unit in Promoting Cultural and Ideological Progress”, etc. Since 1990s, the company has been ranked among the top 100 Chinese investigation and design institutes in terms of the comprehensive strength and the civilized unit of Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City. In the survey of top 60 Chinese contractors and design firms conducted in 2006 jointly by 《Engineering News-Records》（《ENR》）of the McGraw-Hill Company (USA) and China Construction Times, ECIDI ranked at the 12^th, and at the same time, was awarded the title of “Engineering Design Enterprise with most potential for International Development” due to its excellent domestic and overseas performance and market expansion capability, and the company continued to hold the title successively in 2007 and 2008 .
